Really the tech we're missing is the neural connection to make things responsive enough to work like proper limbs. We've got back hand/arm replacements, but they don't work nearly as well as a real hand can.

If Elon Musk is able to keep up momentum despite this crisis, we should have working neural connectors in the next few months.

He mentioned recently on the Joe Rogan podcast that the first few human recipients will be patients with terminal illnesses. Then, if all goes well, he’ll put himself under the knife and have one implanted into his brain as well.
