CDPR has already confirmed that it'll be a smaller map, but that more activities will be crammed into this smaller space. I know people want bigger and bigger open worlds, but that is the wrong way to look at it. Quality over quantity. The world of CP77 will still be large, and there will still be a lot to do.

Basically this. I loved W3, but there were a lot of unused spaces. Not that every space has to be used, of course, only that I'd rather have smaller maps with more happening than bigger maps with less.

Also when Devs said map be smaller but have more content roughly then there other game witcher 3 (note never played witcher games so dont no how big other then devs comments and such about cyberpunk)
That said keep in mind they talk about expansions to cyberpunk and dlcs and there bin mention by devs that they have plans to add another city and to expand on the main story.
So really there no limit specially when they said many times how they want the game to be worked on for 5 or more years after its offical release.
What I have gathered the devs plan specially when you consider they hired like another team of developers to work on the game franchise this shows me that they are already working on the next expansion/dlc while getting the current game ready for release.
Basicly this means that they most likely once the game offically release they will have a dedicated team constantly working on the game and future content for it while there main staff are able to work on other projects and assisat from time to time on cyberpunk 2077 future content.
So this game most likely will end up being way bigger then any of there past games over time with the content the devs bring to it into its future.
They also claimed in a few videos there new engine with the current game not even using 50% of there engine potentional and it will be very easy for them to keep the game updated for future consoles and tech, even if thats not 100% true on there end it shows they have long term plans for cyberpunk 2077 even after its offical release.
So hopefully the core game really great cause then it will be a great foundation for the future content the game could be a rpg that is never ending with them constantly adding content until people lose intrest. Witch i hope is there direction they are hoping for with game I hate sequals and rather contion on my current story in a good single player rpg so really hope they doing that with this game it be new to the gaming industry really no developer ever done this so hope this is the direction they plan on for the game.

Someone from the Reddit has already made a very good comparison of the map for Night City in comparison to The Witcher 3.
This may or may not be 100% accurate, but I think it's fairly close.

I've seen a lot of people complaining about how the map will be smaller than the Witcher 3's, but they don't seem to get that there will be a lot more actual content on that map.
The Witcher series is set in a fantasy-medieval world. It's not very dense or populated. There are small cities, but the biggest cities in the Witcher still have a fraction of the population Cyberpunk has in a single apartment building. Cyberpunk builds up, not out. So you won't have massive open fields all over the place, you'll have cramped city streets, tall buildings full of variety and things to do.
It's literally like comparing an downtown area of a huge city with some country hamlet. Sure, the country locale has a lot more open space... but there's nothing going on in that space.

A bit smaller than Witcher 3's, but a lot denser[www.gamesradar.com].
"If you look at pure surface [in terms of] square kilometers, then Cyberpunk 2077 might even be a little bit smaller than The Witcher 3, but it’s the density of the content, taking the world of The Witcher and squeezing it right in, deleting the wilderness between.
"Obviously [...] in The Witcher we were an open world with vast lanes and forests in between smaller cities and larger cities like Novigrad, but in Cyberpunk 2077 we’re set in Night City. It’s an integral part of the setting; it’s essentially a protagonist if you want to call it that, so it has to be denser. It wouldn't give us the end effect we wanted to achieve if the city wouldn't be believable [...] so we packed it full of life."

TBH doesn't look very accurate when I compare it to GTA V map.Originally posted by Mako Ruu:Someone from the Reddit has already made a very good comparison of the map for Night City in comparison to The Witcher 3.

GTA V map also looks much more dense with more roads and buildings while being ~120sq km vs ~77 sq km.
